(On reserve) Hardy’s Altex No 2. Very early. Like Chris Yates’ in a Passion for Angling. Appears to be an export model, with what might be Hungarian engraving on the spool. With its full bail arm, this reel is a very usable classic. Superb quality, as you would expect.  £120 ( Link to photograph)

Hardy’s Super  Silex 3¾” Centrepin Circa 1938  In really excellent condition. This is the best size of Silex. All checkwork as new. Silent retrieve check. Originally designed as a top-class spinning reel, but also makes a very fine centre-pin for all big fish. Perhaps, a very up-market barbel reel. PHOTO  £450

Tokas (CZ) Post war Tokas crosswind, with desirable button anti-reverse. Michell-size reel; ideal for barbel/tench/traditional carping, etc. £115 ( Photograph)

Tlustos TAP (CZ) #1 One of the rarest fixed spool reels in the country, and the subject of many articles in the angling press. Original pre-war shape Tlustos body. Magnificent engineering. Crosswind spooling. Full geared bale. Late (Mitchell-type) press-button spool removal. There are probably less than 10 Tlustos reels in the country. This is the first ever seen for sale.  £350.( Link to photograph)

TAP 451 Crosswind (CZ) Late (1969 maybe) carp/barbel size crosswind, with rear control anti-reverse. This is an inexpensive way in to crosswind spooling and the famous TAP brand. £75 ( Photograph)

Youngs Ambidex Match. Black. This is by far the best of all the Ambidex reels. It benefits from a much longer spool throw than all other models, and an excellent levelling of the line. This reel has three spools. A deep cast metal spool for heavier lines, a shallow plastic spool for light lines, and an unused, purpose-made aluminium spool turned from bar stock. An excellent all-round vintage reel. £90

RODS, REELS AND ACCESSORIES SOLD PREVIOUSLY

SOLD Allcocks 1960c Leander. 10’3” /2 plus handle. All through action Mk IV Avon type rod. In really excellent, near new, unrestored condition. Agate butt and tip, FOB inters. Closely whipped. This is a good all round rod suitable for everything from chub to carp. £290

SOLD Allcocks 1939c  The Sapper 10’6” /3 All split cane. The Sapper is a lovely through action trotting rod, quite similar to the Lucky Strike.  Originally available as a fly-rod, or as a longer handled roach trotting rod. This is the trotter. Proper reinforced splint-ended ferrules, found only on Allcocks best rods. Beautifully re-furbished with new shive corks and fine alloy fittings, agate butt and tip, fine green silks with close intermediates, and gold oval label. Very light. The perfect stream or grayling trotting rod. £325

SOLD Allcocks 1960c Record Breaker. 10’6” /3. All split cane. Much sought after model. The tapers of the R/B varied a lot, and this one is particularly nicely tapered. Beautifully restored. Agate butt and tip, and new s/s inters. Long shive cork handle. Alloy fittings. £375

SOLD Allcocks Wizard c 1960 11’0” /3 WITH BLACK OVAL.  Possibly in answer to B. James’ updating of the basic Wizard (the Avocet) Allcocks made a late attempt to improve the appeal of their own product. This late model had whole cane all through a longer handle, and proper shive corks (now finished to approx 22” overall handle length). Most of them suffered from too small a whole cane section, and such rods tend to feel rather loose in action. This particular rod was made by Allcocks with an exceptionally large diameter whole cane butt. £735

SOLD Allcocks 1950 c The Wizard 11’0” /3. Obtained in virtually unused condition, but nevertheless re-furbished to better than new standard. Agate butt and tip, HBL inters. Dark green Elephant silk whipped. Original alloy handle fittings. A ‘new’ Wizard, nearly 50 years old. £360

SOLD W.A. Allcock 1960c Adonis 11’0” /3 All split cane. An excellent example of this well-respected barbel taper. Restored to better than new. Agate butt and tip, FOB inters. Fine red silk.  £375

SOLD Allcocks Wizard c 1948 11’0” /3 WITH BLACK OVAL This is an outstanding rod: probably the
