Pricing and Condition

The tackle advertised here is described as accurately as possible. The prices vary according to condition, rarity, collectability, and history. They are hopefully all fair. All restored rods have required a great many hours of highly skilled work. All materials used are of the highest quality. Goods marked SOLD (in italics) have been left on the list to help buyers establish recent past values.

Vintage versus new

Modern cane rods are often quite well made. They are also very expensive, and sometimes subject to uncertain delivery schedules that can extend to a year or more. For anyone with the time and the money they offer a certain route to ownership. Others will prefer genuine vintage tackle, in the same way that some prefer vintage cars to modern reproductions.

Vintage, or used tackle, is often available for immediate delivery, and it usually costs less than half the price of new. Vintage tackle also has that indefinable, but nevertheless real, link with a gentler, and possibly better, age of angling.

Why You Might Buy Here?

Some might regard web sourcing with suspicion. It certainly would be preferable if we could still enjoy extended deliberation, and much soul searching, in proper 1950’s style tackle shops. However, such tackle shops, smelling of linseed oil,  are a rarity these days, and understandably, hard-pressed modern rod makers have little time to spare for chatters and browsers.

Please mail us with your particular requirements. There is always considerable further stock in the restoration queue.

There are now very few remaining sources of really good vintage British fishing tackle.

Whether or not there is anything of interest to you in the for sale lists, this web site will at least allow enthusiasts to gauge what is available, and what they might have to pay for the tackle they need.
